The Story
Awarded International Red Winemaker of the Year and subsequently Australian Winemaker of the Year.
One of Australia's true great wine treasures, Keyneton Estate is often the first premium wine from this most famous of producers that people try. The Barossa hills village of Keyneton, pioneered by pastoralist Joseph Keynes in 1842, was a musical and cultural focus for the early settlers, and was home to the Henschke Family Brass Band and the Henschke winery. The Henschke Family Band was founded in 1888 by Paul Gotthard Henschke and later led by third-generation Paul Alfred Henschke and featured wonderful wind instruments, the instruments were imported by musical entrepreneur, Carl Engel of Adelaide in the late 1900's and have been lovingly restored and remain in the Henschke family.
The Wine
Stephen and Prue employ both organic and biodynamic practices to produce wines of excitement, fascination and of the highest quality to ensure together they produce variety and style within their Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills vineyards to maximise quality and ensure the healthiest possible future. The Riesling takes its name from a local landmark, Peggyâ≢s Hill, at the top of the range between Eden Valley and Keyneton. Produced from selected traditional Henschke Eden Valley growers, whose vines are up to 50 years old, growing in low-vigour ancient Cambrian soils at around 500 m altitude. Classic lime and mineral aromas with a touch of gooseberry. A rich and full-bodied, with citrus and tropical fruit flavours, underpinned by crisp acidity. The palate is full of sweet, juicy fruit, layers of texture, mineral notes and crisp acidity, finishing long and clean.

ÂSubdued and genteel with mixed citrus and florals and a somewhat stony aspectââ¾Has a wonderful mouth perfume and a long dry flinty finish- slight tug of pithy texture and spice there too. Top drinking." www.winefront.com.au, Gary Walsh 2013 (2012 vintage)
â∠ÂLight straw-green; the alcohol reflects early picking to retain maximum acidity, not the retention of residual sugar; lime, apple and scented bath talc are seamlessly joined on the fragrant bouquet and long palate alike; a great vintage also played its part in demonstrating the sort of value Riesling can provide.ââˆ- James Halliday, 2013 (2012 vintage).
